WICHITA FALLS, TX (KSWO) –Police in Wichita Falls have an announcement for all car owners, so listen up.

Do not leave your vehicle running and unattended!

The Wichita Falls Police Department is reminding drivers once again to not leave their vehicles running, with the keys in the ignition, unlocked and unattended. They’ve seen an increase in vehicles thefts and burglaries where this happened.

There are a few simple steps you can take to remove the opportunity for someone to take your car or your stuff:

  • Stay with the car-Would you rather be cold for a little bit or watch someone drive away with your car?
  • Lock the doors-It’s a lot harder to take your car or possessions when the doors are locked. This is where a key FOB comes in handy.
  • Take your keys-Police say you shouldn’t hide your keys on or in your vehicle. Thieves know where to look.
  • Hide your belongings-Thieves can’t take your stuff out of your unlocked car if you don’t leave it there.

The mornings will still be cold for a little longer, but don’t get taken advantage of in lieu of being cold for a few minutes while your car warms up.
