Altus police investigate pawn shop burglary

ALTUS, OK (KSWO) -Altus police are searching for the person who broke into a pawn shop and stole six rifles.

It happened around 1 a.m. Monday, at Go Pawn on East Broadway. Police say the person never actually went inside the building. They say the thief broke a window, reached through the bars and grabbed six guns that were leaning against the wall.

Altus Police Department Detective Captain Tommy Uptergrove says all that weaponry being in the hands of a criminal is disturbing.

"First of all, we don't need more guns on the streets. Second of all, gang violence is always going up. It's something that never seems to go down. We don't want to be arming these people out here, we like guns in the hands of good citizens that get them the right way, but we don't want them in criminals hands," Det. Uptergrove said.

The Altus Police Department asks that anyone with information about the burglary to call Crime Stoppers at 580-482-TIPS (8477). You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
