LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –A Lawton Police Department patrol vehicle was rear-ended on Northwest Rogers Lane after the officer stopped to help another person whose vehicle broke down.
The officer pulled over east of Northwest 38th Street on Rogers Lane to help a truck that had broken down on Rogers Lane around 9:05 a.m. An SUV rear-ended the officer's vehicle and caused quite a bit of damage.
Eastbound Rogers Lane was diverted at Northwest 38th Street for at least an hour while crews worked to check everyone out and remove the vehicles. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital and was still being treated at 2 p.m. The officer was in his car at the time of the collision and was treated for minor injuries and released.
The truck that was broken down was able to drive away from the scene and was not hit. The 33-year-old woman who hit the officer's vehicle was cited for for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
