LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -An uncounted provisional ballot in the race for Lawton’s Ward 7 council seat has been deemed valid.

The vote went to candidate Jesse Cross, which helped solidify his place in the runoff election coming up in April against V. Gay F. McGahee. McGahee came out on top Tuesday with 238 votes, but she did not enough to have a majority. Cross initially finished with one more vote than Sherene L. Williams, 181-180.

Cross says Tuesday's election was proof that every vote counts.

"I want to tell everybody that one vote counts. One vote counts. We're asking everyone to get out and vote this next time," said Cross.

Williams formally filed for a recount, which will be held Friday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. Four people will be involved in the recount, and they will submit the final numbers to the Oklahoma Election Board for certification.
