COMANCHE COUNTY, OK (KSWO) – A large grass fire in Comanche County burned about 60 acres Saturday afternoon.
The Comanche County Emergency Management office says it started on the corner of Southeast165th Street and Bishop Road. A man was grinding a metal post to cut it, and the sparks caught the grass on fire around 1:30 p.m.
The fire spread north from where it started, and officials say they got it under control in about an hour. They say firefighters were slowed down by the soft ground and high grass in the area, causing some of their vehicles to get stuck.
No one in the area was evacuated, but neighbors in the area say residents near the fire were moving vehicles and horses out of the path of the fire.
