DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) - A tragic accident has a Duncan boy recovering OU Children's Medical Center in OKC after he was hit by a car while riding his bike. Police say it happened around 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the intersection of 17th Street and Jones Avenue in Duncan.

The SUV was driving east down Jones, and tried to swerve to miss hitting the boy who was on his bike riding south down 17th. But the driver ended up hitting and dragging him until the SUV stopped in the front yard of a home.

Carli Bagwell was pulling up to her house when she saw what happened, and comforted the boy until help arrived.

"I was scared, but I knew I needed to stay calm because I didn't want him to get scared and panic,” said Bagwell. “I just thought what if that was my daughter."

The accident is still under investigation, and Duncan police say they do not suspect the driver of the SUV was under the influence. The boy was flown to the hospital, and officials say he was awake and talking at the scene.
