FREDERICK, OK (KSWO) -Frederick hosted its 27th annual oyster fry and craft show.
The event kicked off with a craft show before everyone settled in for a meal of both fried and raw oysters.
Executive director of the Frederick Chamber of Commerce Haley Hoover says even though the event started Saturday, the work has been going on all week.
"Thursday evening, they sent a crew down, they go straight to Port Lavaca, Texas, they pick up 170 gallons of oysters, bring them back up and they got here late last night and were serving them fresh today," said Hoover.
Hoover says the event generally feeds close to 1,000 people, and is a staple in the Frederick community.
"I think a lot of people really enjoy it, it's a tradition for a lot of people," said Hoover. "Once you come once you kind of mark your calendar, and come every year just because it's so rare to get fresh oysters in the middle of Oklahoma so it's really fun for everyone."
Hoover says this is the biggest event of the year in Frederick, and says they had more than 100 volunteers on hand Saturday to make the event run smoothly.
