DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) -A Duncan food bank and toy shop are joining forces to bring children a happy Easter.
Volunteers with Christian Concerns and the Toy Shop have been preparing Easter baskets for their clients for the past few days.
Executive director Penny Gardner says this project was inspired after seeing children at Easter egg hunts who only had plain paper bags to the put them in. Gardner says being able to provide children with a real Easter basket filled with candy is something that tugs at her heartstrings.
"It makes us happy, it makes us glad to be able to see the kids light up. When they come into the pantry, the food pantry, and we hand them a basket, they're so excited. It's like a little kid at Christmas," Gardner said.
Gardner says 100 baskets have been made. She says they will start to hand out the baskets Tuesday, March 1, until Easter.
