OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KSWO) -The proposed cigarette tax increase in to fund teacher raises and other health-related programs failed to advance.
House Joint Resolution 1058 is likely dead for this session as well.
The proposal called for a $1.50 tax per pack, and would have put the proposal to a vote of the people in November. It was projected to raise about $180 million each year, but the committee chairman said the idea failed to gain traction among its members.
The bill was pulled from consideration without a vote.
