Lawton High Decathlon team on 5-year winning streak

LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –For the fifth straight year, Lawton High School has claimed the Academic Decathlon State Championship.

Under the leadership of faculty sponsor Steve Jackson, students in grade 10 through 12 took part in the competition and won on Feb. 29. The team is now eligible to compete in the National Decathlon Championship in April in Alaska.

Honors Division
GOLD: Moses Kim, economics, mathematics, music, science and social studies; Vaneza Taylor Vasquez, language and literature.
SILVER: Moses Kim, language and literature; Vaneza Taylor Vazques, economics, math and science; James Taylor Vasquez, music and social science.
BRONZE: Vaneza Taylor Vazquez, music and social science; James Taylor Vasquez, economics, mathematics, science and language and literature.

Scholastic Division
GOLD: Tarianna Bridges, economics and music; Isaiah Smith, mathematics, science and social science; Brendan Newsom, language and literature.
SILVER: Tarianna Bridges, language and literature; Isaiah Smith, music; Savon Matthews, mathematics; Brendan Newsom, economics, science and social science.
BRONZE: Tarianna Bridges, mathematics, science and social science; Savon Matthews, economics and language and literature; Brendan Newsom, music.
