DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) -The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is showcasing the talents of art students throughout Stephens County.
March is Youth Art Month, and the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center invites art students from Duncan, Marlow, Empire and Comanche to display their work throughout the museum each year.
Students from the alternative schools FAME and EDGE Academy also put their artwork on display.
Stacy Cramer Moore, the executive director of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, says the artwork this year will be featured in a gallery because the program continues to grow. Something she says is important to note, especially in the wake of the state's recent budget cuts.
"We really want to encourage our young artists. Art is being cut from our schools unfortunately. One for the school district to know is import, and two for those kids to have an outlet to show their work in a public form like this is very important," Moore said.
The students are allowed to draw from topics chosen by their art teachers. The students use everything from paintings, paper, acrylic, ceramic and oils to create their work.
