ALTUS, OK (KSWO) -Police arrested an Altus man who is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl and getting her pregnant.

Arturo DeJesus, 34, was arrested last week on first-degree rape charges. Police say the girl told them he forced her to have sex in December. The girl said she tried to scream, but he covered her mouth.

Authorities say she discovered she was pregnant in March. She was 13 weeks along, one week past the clinic’s protocol for performing abortions.

While reporting the incident, she told investigators the only sexual encounter was the forced incident by DeJesus.

During a recorded conversation at the police station between the girl and DeJesus, she told him she was pregnant. Police say he did not deny having sex with her then, nor did he deny the incident when he was arrested. When police picked him up they say he continuously stated he did not remember.

His initial court appearance is Thursday.
