Lawton father charged with child abuse

LAWTON, OK (KSWO) – A Lawton father was arrested Monday afternoon after concerned adults noticed his 6-year-old son had numerous injuries.

The mindful adults spoke with officers about the abuse. The officers were told about numerous bruises and abrasions on the child’s neck, chest, arms and buttocks. They were told the injuries came from being whipped.

Robert Prichett, 22, was arrested and charged for child abuse.

Under the Oklahoma Child Abuse Reporting and Prevention Act, anyone that suspects a child is being abused or neglected should report it to the Department of Human Services.

If you believe a child is being abused or neglected, you can report it at any time to the DHS Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-522-3511.

    Several students graduated from Junior Citizens Police Academy today. Each year they host two of these academies to teach local kids exactly what officers do. The academy is designed to help the department build a better relationship with the community.

    A luncheon was held today for those who go above and beyond to donate to the United Way of Southwest Oklahoma. The 2017 Pacesetters Luncheon recognizes local businesses and organization for their commitment to bettering the community by getting a jump start on donations for United Way's campaign. A total of 19 businesses has already pledged donations this year which is an increase from year's past.
