LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –A neighbor heard glass break and called the police investigate, and the officers found the suspected burglar with meth in his pocket.
Just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, a neighbor called police saying they heard glass breaking at a vacant home on the 1300 block of Northwest Cherry Avenue. Two officers showed up and found a broken window and a bag right next to it; they also spotted two wireless networking devices near the window. All of the other windows and doors were locked.
Once two more officers showed up, they went into the home to see if anyone was in there. After a quick search, they came across Patrick Roof. Roof was told to get on the ground multiple times, but didn't respond. The officers had to physically put him on the ground before they finished searching the home.
When asked, Roof admitted to having "dope," but he told them he wasn't sure which pocket it was in. Police found a small baggie of meth in one pocket and a syringe in the other.
The home that was broken into was not furnished and was listed for sale.
Roof was taken to the Lawton City Jail and booked for obstructing a police officer, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree burglary.
