Council listens to public on charter changes

LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - The city council heard from the public Tuesday night, regarding potential changes to the city charter that voters would ultimately decide on.

Among them, removal of term limits for the mayor and city council.

Tuesday night, council members briefly discussed the proposed changes, which also include a requirement for city department heads to live within the city limits, and making anyone who's been convicted of embezzlement ineligible to run for mayor or council. Mayor Fred Fitch said he hoped the council would be able to vote on a proposal regarding the charter changes at their next regularly scheduled meeting.
