LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - Kids put sports, science and math together Saturday at MacArthur High School. STEM Achievement Foundation hosted a basketball STEM event to show the kids that science, technology, engineering and math aren't just for robotics. But the robots did make an appearance at the event.

45 kids came out to learn about the science of basketball, but STEM Achievement Foundation CEO Eyo Effiong says he wants the kids to go beyond what they learned Saturday.

"It's not just a game, it's not just for them to come and have fun,” said Effiong. “It's for down the road, and for them to acquire this skill set they will need to fill their technical jobs. Those stem jobs that are out there with no one to fill them"

He says this is a pilot program for the foundation, and hopes to have an event like this every month to bring in kids who would normally shy away from math and science.

For more information on how to get your child involved, visit the STEM Achievement Foundation website.
