LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - Families who have lost a child walked to remember Saturday morning at Elmer Thomas Park.

The Lawton-Fort Sill Compassionate Friends organization walked from the Museum of the Great Plains to their memorial at the park. The group's goal is to bring people who have lost a child to their group so they can get the help and support they need.

They spent the day talking about their children, and reaching out to new members.

"I’m walking today in honor of my daughter, but I’m here to support all of my fellow members, and anyone in the community that I haven't met yet,” said The Compassionate Friends leader Georgia Smith. “Anyone who has lost a child, we want them to know that we're here for them."

The cost of entering in the walk goes to the upkeep of their memorial, and also to send some members to a national grief workshop. They also dedicated a bench to a parent in their group that recently passed away.
