WALTERS, OK (KSWO) –The Walters Volunteer Fire Department is heating up the kitchen in preparation for its annual hamburger supper.
The dinner will be held Thursday, April 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Walters Fire Department at 129 E. Colorado St. and the cost is $8 per plate.
The money raised will be used to purchase combination grass and wildland gear for its 22 firefighters. Fire Chief Monty Powers says the new uniforms are necessary because their bunker gear is too heavy to use in the summer.
"When we're out on our actual wild land, you know, you need to be able to release the heat from your body so that's all what the gear does," Powers said.
The fire department will also sell raffle tickets at $10 each for a chance to win a generator, which will be raffled off at the fire department's fireworks show July 4.
Tickets for the supper can be purchased at the fire station in advance or during the supper.
