LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - Lawton Ward 5 Councilman Dwight Tanner filed a formal challenge against a candidate running against him, citing a city ordinance on qualifications for office.

"Unfortunately for her, she's not qualified to run for city council member for ward 5 because she's not registered to vote in ward 5, plain and simple," said Tanner.

Tanner is talking about Leslie Chism, who filed her candidacy last week. City ordinance requires candidates to be registered to vote in that ward for at least six months before filing to run for city council. The Comanche County Election Board will hold a hearing on Chism's candidacy next Tuesday. We tried to contact her for a comment today, but she could not be reached.
