LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –A Lawton woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the June 2015 shooting death of her boyfriend.
Shainice Owens told police she and her boyfriend, Joseph Higgins, were arguing in their northwest Lawton home when things turned physical, and they both grabbed guns.
She said she accidentally shot him in the neck as she was waving the weapon at him.
Owens could face anywhere from four years to life in prison for killing her boyfriend, and up to five years for knowingly receiving stolen property. At the time of the shooting, Owens was in possession of a stolen gun.
Tuesday's guilty plea is part of a deal to serve seven years in prison and a five-year suspended sentence. However, Owens will be formally sentenced Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
