CACHE, Okla - The Cache Lady Bulldogs have a new head basketball coach, sort of. Jason Heidebrecht, who was the interim coach this past season, has been named the team's leader going forward. The move, which was first reported by the Daily Oklahoman, was made Monday night at the Cache school board meeting.
Heidebrecht stepped in for Kenny White this past season. White took a leave of absence from the program while he was being investigated for his role in an on-court incident in which former Elgin star Jentry Holt was struck in the face with a basketball by a Cache player last February.
Heidebrecht filled in admirably, leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 19-9 record and a trip to the 4A State Tournament, where they came within an eyelash of upsetting eventual champion Newcastle in the quarterfinals. According to Superintendent Randy Batt, that success is what led to Heidebrecht's hiring full time. White is still expected to be the school's volleyball coach in the fall.
