LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –Do you have what it takes to be an officer with the Lawton Police Department?

LPD is looking to hire 20 recruits and they’ll hold a physical try-out Saturday, April 16, starting at 9 a.m. Around 150 applications have been picked up so far and you can still apply until 4 p.m. Friday.

The physical assessment will be held at the training center at Great Plains Technology Center Building 900.

The physical assessment consists of the following:

  • 300-meter run; 1 point deducted for every second after 72 seconds
  • 25 pushups in 1 minute; 1 point deducted for each pushup under 25 in the time frame
  • 25 sit ups in 1 minute; 1 point deducted for each sit up under 25 in the time frame
  • 16-inch vertical jump; 1 point deducted for each 1.5 inches under 16 inches.

In order to move to the oral interview, the second section, you must get at least a 95 percent on the physical assessment. The score from the oral interview, held between April 18 and April 20, is combined with the score from the written test (both must have at least 70 percent); the combined score must be at least 80 percent to move on.

The current police academy class will graduate June 16.
