LAWTON (KSWO) - A local organization held an ice cream social Friday to help raise awareness for abused and neglected children.
Court-Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, worked together with the Lawton Fire Department to put on the Blue Ribbon Ceremony and ice cream social at the community service building on Northwest Cache Rd.
Over 300 ribbons were tied around a tree, each ribbon representing a foster child in Comanche County.
Wilma Whittaker, executive director of CASA for southwest Oklahoma, says she hopes to raise public awareness through the event.
"I think every foster child in Comanche county and statewide deserves a CASA - someone who is looking out for their best interests and being a voice for them in the courts," Whittaker said.
