LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - MacArthur Middle School had their 2nd MacFest fundraiser Saturday. They are raising money to make repairs to their outdoor nature sanctuary. It was built in 1996, and those at the school says it has seen better days. So they are raising money to fix it up.
Erin Berry with the school says it helps with the student's learning.
"Kids learn a lot from their textbooks, but they don't always get the opportunity to get their hands on experience with the science and nature that they are learning about in their books," said Berry. "So having the space behind the school gives them an actual opportunity to seen the insects and the wildlife and the plant life that grows here in Oklahoma."
Berry says that if it gets the repairs it needs they will be able to open the sanctuary up to all the schools in the district.
