LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -A World War II veteran sang in celebration of his 101st birthday.

"Ohhhh what a beautiful day," Venice James, World War II veteran, sang.

James had his birthday party at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Lawton Tuesday. They had cake and a round of bingo to celebrate. His granddaughter gave him a picture of him when he was in the Army.

His family says even at his age, he’s still as sharp as a tack. James says today's party was a big surprise.

"I'm delighted. I'm happy to see people around here that I have all respect and love for," James said.

James was a staff sergeant in the Army, and served until 1967. His family says he was proud to have served his country.

When the VA Center was built in Lawton, he was one of the first to register.
