LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - Cameron University is doing its part to raise awareness in honor of April being Sexual Assault Prevention Month.
Friday, the university hosted a sexual assault awareness tree dedication in the Dr. Graybill Courtyard. It was one of many activities the university hosted this month.
Cameron University President Dr. John McArthur said the newly planted tree will serve as a daily reminder that sexual assault prevention is everyone's responsibility.
"Sexual assault doesn't happen to someone else. It's each of our responsibilities, we're going to be faced with situations either we are going to see something happening and it's our job to step up. We are not to be bystanders," said Dr. McArthur.
Fort Sill and New Directions Women's Shelter also joined Cameron in planting trees of their own Friday. Organizers said each of the trees symbolizes strength and growth in facing the issues associated with sexual assault.
