Police try to help man, end up arresting him

LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -A man assaulted a police officer while being arrested for public intoxication in Lawton Sunday morning.

Police responded to a call of a person standing in the middle of Northwest Sheridan Road waving a piece of insulation just before 3 a.m. Sunday. The man was identified as Curtis Kostzuta.

Police say he appeared to be intoxicated and became combative with officers as they attempted to get him home safely. When they asked for an address they could take him to, he responded with, "1224 your momma's house." Officers then attempted to arrest Kostzuta.

He resisted and was escorted to the ground and handcuffed. During a search, Kostzuta attempted to roll free from the officers.

While the officer took him to the Lawton City Jail, he assaulted an officer with racial slurs repeatedly.

During booking, he threatened to kill the same officer twice and then kicked him in the knee cap. Kostzuta was then taken to the ground, at which time his forehead split open.

EMS took Kostzuta to a Lawton hospital and he was given stitches.

Kostzuta is charged with public intoxication, threatening, resisting and assaulting a police officer.
