DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) – The United Way of Stephens County is looking for volunteers to help with their Day of Caring.
No matter what your list of abilities include, the United Way of Stephens County has a task for you. On their May 13 Day of Caring, they'll need volunteers to help with weeding flower beds, planting shrubs, organizing files and food pantries, painting, mowing, trimming trees and light carpentry. They even need help walking dogs.
The United Way of Stephens County has held a Day of Caring for more than 40 years.
"It is an event steeped in tradition and it is a wonderful example of people helping people, of people making a positive difference. Having the extra manpower enables many of the organizations to fix things that are broken, to spruce up their facilities and to address issues that otherwise might go untouched," Susan Saxon-White, chairman of the 2016 project, said.
Project sites include the Duncan Senior Citizens Center, the Toy Shop, Women's Haven, Duncan Little Theatre, Stephens County Humane Society, Gabriel's House and many others.
This year, volunteers will meet at Duncan Regional Hospital at 8:30 a.m. on May 13 for breakfast and work assignments, work starts at 9 a.m. A luncheon will be served at the hospital at noon and work should wrap up by 4 p.m.
With so many projects on the list, they're looking for at least 100 volunteers to help get the jobs done. If you're interested in helping or forming a team to help, call Helen Stewart or Ed Darling at 580-255-3648 or Susan Saxon-White at 580-483-8752. They hope to have firm volunteer lists by May 2.
