LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - The future of Lawton Public Schools was the topic of discussion Monday night as parents and community members met to discuss possible bond proposals.

JoAnn Pierce moderated the discussion and will take ideas from the meeting to the Lawton Public School Board. Pierce said some topics brought about by parents were building a middle school on the west side of town and creating a sports complex for the school district.

One member of the community suggested consolidating the city's elementary schools.

“We have a lot of elementary schools and I think we may have too many, not sure, but it's something to look at as a cost-cutting,” said Cyndy Farrell. “But also so we can concentrate on some of the newer schools or maintenance on other schools that are so old.”

This was the second of three meetings Lawton Public Schools has held. The third will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Eisenhower Middle School. For parents not able to attend, a poll is available online at the Lawton Public Schools website.
