Man to be tried for second-degree murder

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- A Lawton man charged with second-degree murder will face trial in September.

A judge set the trial date Tuesday for Malik Gibson, who's charged in the shooting death of a man in Lawton last November.

Investigators say Gibson shot Joshua Whitehead to death during a night of crime that also included three robberies of random victims. Whitehead was found dead in his car after it crashed into a Fort Sill border fence on Rogers Lane. Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive for the killing.
