LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -The Lawton family who formerly owned KSWO-TV was honored Wednesday by Comanche County Memorial Hospital.

The Drewry’s made a major donation to CCMH’s new emergency center and it will be named after them.

"Some of the other facilities are closing down, so there is a huge need, and it is really going to be amazing," said Stephanie Drewry.

The Drewry Family Emergency Center will open in two phases. The first part of the center will open in June, with the completed project fully opened by the end of the year.

Following Wednesday's announcement, Lori Cummins, the CCMH Foundation director, praised the Drewry’s generosity.

"They just really care about the community and the people in the community and wanted to do something that was going to have large impact on virtually everyone. They really came out in a large way to help us with building and construction expenses to be able to ensure that quality emergency services continue to be available in this community for generations to come,” said Cummins.

The Drewry family has long had ties to the hospital. Dr. Robert Drewry practiced medicine there and worked in the emergency center for years.

The hospital says around 55,000 people go through their emergency center a year, and that the new, larger facilities will allow them to treat even more patients.
