FORT SILL, OK (KSWO) –Major General John Rossi, Fort Sill's commanding general, has been reassigned.

Major Gen. Rossi came to Fort Sill June 3, 2014, and replaced Maj. Gen. Mark McDonald. Rossi has served all over the world for the U.S. Army before coming to Fort Sill as the first Air Defense Artillery commander.

Rossi has been assigned to serve as the next commanding general of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Rossi has also been nominated and confirmed for a promotion to lieutenant general by the U.S. Senate.

Rossi will be replaced by Maj. Gen. Brian McKiernan, who is no stranger to Fort Sill. The change of command ceremony is scheduled for July 21.

McKiernan previously served as the commandant of the United State Field Artillery School at Fort Sill from January 2012 until April 2013.
