LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - A seminar at Great Plains Technology Center aimed at educating children and parents about sexual abuse on Saturday. The seminar is designed to teach parents to recognize the warning signs, and for children to speak up if they are abused. They let them know what resources they have to report their abuser.
Touching Lives Compassionately, a local non-profit volunteer organization helped put this seminar together.
Lisa Willis with the organization says they included men and boys to this discussion for the first time this year.
"Boys become victims and sometimes they grow up and victimize," said Willia. "So we want to make sure that they are educated and catch them young so hopefully we can prevent something like this from happening in the future."
Willis says they know they cannot stop sexual assault crimes from happening altogether, but hopefully with the education they are giving they can minimize the chances of becoming a victim.
