DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) - Inmates from Stephens County jail shared their stories Sunday in an effort to keep kids off a path that leads to drug use.
We told you before on 7NEWS that multiple churches came together with Stephen's County jail to put on this event at the New Hope Baptist Church in Duncan for families.
Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney says through his line of work, he has seen young people get stuck on a path that lands them behind bars.
"They've been there, they've been down that bad path," said Sheriff McKinney. "They're trying to turn their life around, but they are having to serve time in jail right now. So hopefully they can touch some of the young people so they don't make that wrong turn and keep on going on the right path."
There were five inmates that spoke and one speaker who have experienced being behind bars and rehab. Sheriff McKinney says the idea started with a former jail administrator, who hosted an event with just one church. When they saw how well it took off, they opened up a larger seminar with more churches.
