LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –Lawton Police and Fort Sill EOD were called to a home Wednesday afternoon after a man found a “bomb.”

The man told police he was mowing his backyard on the 3800 block of Northwest Arlington Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when he came across a large shell that was about a foot long.

The area around the home was secured and Fort Sill Explosive Ordnance Disposal was called out to the home. They removed what was believed to be a “WWI 75 MM explosive ordnance.” They took the device to the Fort Sill range for demolition.

By 3 p.m., the area was declared safe and clear.
