DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) -In an effort to unite a diverse community and bring area residents of all denominations together...Duncan celebrated the annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast.

This year's prayer breakfast was held at Duncan's Simmons Center. The theme was "Wake up America" and focused on the nation's churches, leaders, education and government, all of which shaped the foundation of America and our culture.

Mayor Ritchie Dennington says it's an opportunity to fellowship in a safe place, free of fear, to exchange ideas on religion.

"We are one. We are all the same under God and that's what we wanted to focus on. When we come together we will prevail. It's truly powerful to see different denominations coming together and saying we might not all agree, but we can agree that what we need in our community is more prayer," Mayor Dennington said.

This was Duncan's third annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. The city's event is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast held each year in Washington D.C.
