LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - The fate of the superintendent of the Lawton Public Schools hangs in the balance.

On Wednesday afternoon, the school board released the agenda for a special meeting Thursday, and the number one item is a discussion in executive session regarding the employment and performance of Dr. Tom Deighan.

Rumors have swirled for weeks that Deighan's job status was shaky, and that the board was strongly considering making a change at the top.

Deighan was hired in 2013 to replace Barry Beauchamp, who retired after nearly 40 years at various positions in the district. Deighan came to Lawton from Ringwood, OK, where he was the superintendent, and has 20 years of educational experience under his belt.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Shoemaker Center.
