ALTUS, OK (KSWO) –In a check of 22 restaurants and stores in Altus, four of them were caught selling alcohol to minors.
The Altus Police Department teamed up with ABLE, the Wichita Mountain Prevention Network and the Jackson County Substance Awareness Committee to make sure Altus restaurants and businesses were checking IDs for alcohol sales. Underage buyers were able to get alcoholic beverages and low-point beer from a United Supermarket, Mr.s Bill's, Applebee's and Mi Familia Restaurant.
Altus Police issued citations to employees responsible for the sales at those locations. Police say they want to "educate and encourage all merchants, who sell low-point beer and/or alcoholic beverages, to check the identification of those young people who are attempting to make a purchase."
The checks were part of 2 Much 2 Lose, which is a project that works to decrease underage drinking and access to alcohol.
