NORMAN, Okla (KSWO) – No. 3 Oklahoma won its opening game in the Norman Regional. The Sooners beat Wichita State 7-2 on Friday night.
Oklahoma jumped ahead in the bottom of the 1st. Freshman Sydney Romero got the party started with an RBI double to right-center field. Two batters later, Sophomore Nicole Pendley gave the Sooners a 5-0 lead with her first career grand slam.
Wichita State would score a pair of runs in the 3rd to close the gap to 5-2. Oklahoma would answer with runs in the 3rd and 5th innings.
Sterling product Laurie Derrico was 0-3 for the Shockers. Wichita State will face Tulsa in an elimination game on Saturday. Oklahoma will take on Ole Miss.
