Furr hired as new Cameron softball coach

LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - After over four weeks of searching the Cameron University softball program has a new head coach. Athletic Director Jim Jackson named Dennis Furr as the new leader of the team. Furr has been a head coach at the High school level for 13 years. He comes from Chickasha High School where he led them to state championships in 2014 and 2015. He also coached at MacArthur from 2005 through 2011 and led the team to back-to-back state titles in 2008 and 2009.

“It's an accomplishment for me. I've been very blessed to have coached so many great athletes and a lot of great players,” says Furr. “And that of course helps to be successful and to be able to even think you have a chance when you apply for a job like this. And then, honestly, to be able to get it, it just speaks about how successful I've been and how successful my teams and players have been over my career.”

Jackson explains that Furr’s track record and networking throughout the region is what made him the favorite.

“Dennis, he knows Oklahoma and he knows Texas. And so his recruiting network, that really set him apart. He's an established coach and proven track record, proven success. But with his connections, he just sold us on that and we knew that going in,” says Jackson.
