Comanche breaks three-game losing skid to Velma-Alma, beats Comets 18-6

VELMA, OK (KSWO) - Three second quarter touchdowns fueled Comanche to an 18-6 victory at Velma-Alma Thursday night. This is the Indians first win in the rivalry since 2012.

The scoring started when Brandon VanOven ran for a 15-yard score early in second quarter to put the Indians up 6-0.

Later, Comanche would force Velma-Alma to punt, but the kick was sent out of bounds still in Comet territory. So with a short field to work with, Indians' quarterback Garrett Shannon threw a touchdown pass to Wes McClendon to extend the lead to 12-0.

Final minute of the quarter, Velma-Alma backed up to about their five-yard line. The team decided to run the ball hoping to drain the clock and get into the locker room. However, the Comets' Caleb Crowson fumbled the ball, which Comanche recovered at about the four-yard line. The Indians went back to VanOven on the next play as he flipped into the endzone for the teams third touchdown of the quarter.

Comanche now sits at 1-1, while Velma-Alma falls to 0-2.
