Alyssa D. Wiles Act signed into law

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KSWO)- A local family whose young daughter was murdered by an ex-boyfriend celebrated another victory Thursday in their battle against domestic violence.

Governor Mary Fallin signed the Alyssa D. Wiles Act, which will help other families who find themselves victims of violent crime.

Alyssa's friends and family dressed in her favorite color, green, as they thanked the governor at the State Capitol for the signing.

The new law allows immediate family members of murder victims to seek protection orders against anyone who was convicted of the crime, or anyone who was convicted of being an accessory to the crime.

Alyssa was murdered in her home in June 2013 by her 16-year-old boyfriend, Michael Ray, while another teenager stood watch outside.

Ray was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Ray's 14-year-old friend was convicted of being an accessory to the crime, and was sentenced through juvenile court.  He will be freed when he turns 18.

The Alyssa D. Wiles Act takes effect November 1.

An Oklahoma Forestry Services task force is joining the fight against a wildfire in Kiowa County. It's burning about 17 miles southwest of Quartz Mountain State Park. They're calling it the "Flat Top" fire. The last update shows the fire has consumed about 70 acres. The O.F.S. says the biggest problem is that fire is burning in rough terrain. Local fire departments, including Blair and Martha are among those fighting it.
