DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) - A group of widows in Duncan came to celebrate the 2nd year of their dinner group that has grown to 250 women.

The "Kindred Community of Widows "dinner is hosted by the Beautiful Day Foundation and their volunteers every month in Duncan. Organizers say it gives the widows in Southwest Oklahoma a chance to support one another and have fun, during a time in their lives that can be difficult.

Betty Ellis, who lost her husband four years ago, has been to every dinner since the group started.

“I've made good friends here,” said Ellis. “So it's been a wonderful thing. I just say I'm sorry I have to come. I'm sorry I come, but it's a wonderful thing for the widows. We look forward to it each month. It's at a different church each month, so we all look forward to going to different places."

The organizers say it is amazing to see some of the widows come in alone, and then walk out with new friends who can empathize with their situation.

The next dinner is October 18th at the First Baptist Church in Marlow.
