No. 3 Altus suffers first loss of year 13-7 to No. 5 Ardmore

ALTUS, OK (KSWO) - Number Five Ardmore put Altus in the doghouse with a 13-7 win Friday night. It's the Bulldogs' first loss in 2016.

Both teams are known for running a flexbone offense. However, it was the defense that seemed to dominate most of the first half. In the first quarter, a forced fumble and recovery by Ardmore in Altus territory led to a drive that resulted in a fourth down turnover when Tigers quarterback Anthony Kimmons threw an interception to Shaquan French.

Altus was the first defense to give way. In the final two minutes of the first half, Ardmore's Kobe Pickens broke a 48-yard run into Altus territory. That drive ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Chantz Scurry to give Ardmore a 7-0 halftime advantage.

Altus fell into a 13-0 hole in the second half. With less than five minutes to go in the game, Noah Villareal finished off a 69-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run cutting the lead to 13-7. Ardmore gave the ball back to the Bulldogs with three minutes left, but the Bulldogs would fail to convert a fourth down giving the ball back to Ardmore, ultimately ending the game.

Altus now looks to regroup as they prepare to travel to El Reno.
