LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - October 23 was National Open Mosque Day, and a local mosque in Lawton was open to the public in honor of the day.
American Muslim Association of Lawton was one of six participating in the state of Oklahoma on Sunday.
Their message was community togetherness. The doors were open for people to get to know the group that is right here in Lawton.

"Because we live here, we are like anybody else,” said Masooda Burki, Vice President American Muslims Association of Lawton “And unfortunately there is a lot of negative propaganda everywhere on the news. Every channel we turn on there is nothing but negativity about Muslims. So we wanted to correct that perception that we are like every average citizen over here, I'm a naturalized citizen. And we love this country just like anyone else."

They had representation of their cultures as well with Pakistani and Turkish food.
