LAWTON, Okla (KSWO) - Thanks to what has to be one of the wildest finishes in Lawton High football history, the Wolverines scored a crucial 35-28 win over Putnam City West on Thursday night.
It's a game the Patriots had a chance to win. With less than ten seconds left in regulation and the score tied 28-28, PC West quarterback Trey Gooch was picked off by Lawton High's Miles Davis. The sophomore defensive back ran it back 60 yards to give LHS a victory that could earn them a home playoff game.
It was a perfect ending to a highly competitive game. The two teams traded scores all night. Neither was able to grab more than a one touchdown advantage. Lawton High quarterback Zack Hanna, still playing with a brace on his right knee after suffering an injury earlier in the season, rushed for three touchdowns. Tre Curry scored the first TD of the night for LHS.
The Wolverines are now 4-2 in district play. If they can beat Deer Creek next week, they'll at the very least finish second in 6AII-1.
