Lawton family ends Halloween tradition

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- A Halloween tradition for one family is coming to an end, but not before they give the Lawton community one last, good scare.

John and Patti Ramirez put on their first "Nightmare on Elm Street" 12 years ago because they happen to live on Elm Street in Lawton.  It caught on amongst other families in the neighborhood who also decorate their homes for trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
The whole Ramirez family now participates, handing out candy to everyone.

Some even ask to take selfies with them.

"We put a lot of pride into it”, says Justin Ramirez. “I really feel we have the best block and picture station on the whole block and entire city so we take pride knowing we are "the" Nightmare on Elm Street."

Last year they had about 800 kids come through. This year they think they had even more. The Ramirez's say they've decided to make this their final year because they are getting older, but plan to continue decorating their home. They hope maybe someone else in the neighborhood may decide to carry on the tradition.
