LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -The Southwest Growers Association opened the doors Saturday to Lawton's Winter Farmer's Market.
The Winter market continues the local food sales you've come to know from the normal Farmer's Market -- with the added bonus of access to winter products like eggs, meats, honey and micro greens.
Though the Farmer's Market usually closes up in October, a partnership with Cameron University has allowed the marketplace to move into the school's Animal Sciences Building.
Officials say they're overjoyed to be able to continue their work , and they aren't alone -- local residents say they're excited to still have a steady source of locally-grown foods.
"I think it's great to be able to support people in Lawton that are doing this to make a living," said Sheri Geiger, a shopper. "To me this is farms straight to my table, and that's why I like it that we can do that."
Another bonus to the winter market is that officials have been allowed to continue taking SNAP cards -- letting them keep more buying options open for more of Lawton.
