"Lone Survivor" hero comes to Lawton

LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -The man whose heroic actions are portrayed in his book "Lone Survivor" which was turned into a movie shared his story in Lawton Sunday night.

Marcus Luttrell is a retired United States Navy SEAL. He received the Navy Cross for his actions in 2005 facing Taliban fighters during Operation Red Wing. He spoke tonight to help raise money for the Lawton Soccer Club. 100 percent of the proceeds will be used to replace the road leading into the soccer complex off Lee Boulevard near I-44.

One parent describes how much it means to have Lutrell speak in Southwest Oklahoma and why this fundraiser is so important for the Lawton Soccer Club.

"We just need to do some general maintenance on the roads, and the fact that we have a chance to host other soccer clubs instead of everyone from Lawton driving to Oklahoma City or Tulsa, they can come to us and that's a really appealing thing," said Shawn Magrath, a parent. "It's really good for the Lawton economy."
