FORT SILL, OK (KSWO) - Soldiers and their families were honored in the 2016 Fort Sill Family of the Year ceremony.
The ceremony, which took place Tuesday, honored families for their service to the community, and one family was recognized for their contributions.
Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Folds and his family were honored as this year’s family of the year.
Chief Warrant Officer Folds is currently deployed.
His wife Charlene says she says she was overwhelmed with emotions to receive this honor.
“It’s kind of shocking,” Charlene Folds said, “because you don't think that when you do stuff for the community, you don't ever think to get anything for it. So it was kind of nice to get appreciated.”
Charlene is Fort Sill's family readiness group coordinator.
She coaches two soccer teams, and coordinates eight teams for the school district.
She says staying busy helps pass the time while her husband is away.
Chief Warrant Officer Folds will return home after his year-long deployment in January of 2017.
